In the Jewish communal cemetery in Eppingen stands a memorial to fallen soldiers of the Jewish faith, a monument that was erected and unveiled in 1922.
“The Eppingen War Veterans’ Association and the Eppingen Veterans’ Association cordially invite their members to attend the dedication ceremony for a memorial to fallen Israeli soldiers. Decorations and association badges are to be worn” (from the Eppinger Zeitung, 17 November 1921)
Despite the virulent anti-Semitism that continued to be fuelled even during the Weimar Republic, the “Reichsbund jüdischer Frontsoldaten” (RjF) to defend the honour of Jewish frontline soldiers against anti-Semitic accusations (e.g. “shirking”, the 1916 Jewish census) and to make their achievements publicly visible, during the Jewish communities erected their own war memorials.
